Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SAHK) hosted the 1st ever Asian Indoor Ski Championships (Junior) 2026 in collaboration with HUAFA SNOW BONSKI, marking the first international event held at the newly opened world’s largest ski resort in Qian Hai Snow World in Shenzhen, China.
As China’s first indoor alpine skiing competition certified by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), the event represents a significant breakthrough for the development of competitive winter sports beyond the country’s traditional winter regions. Elite junior athletes from 12 countries and regions gathered to deliver a high‑level competition that combined technical excellence with strong international engagement. The event hosted 9 Asian Ski Federation Member countries and regions including, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Korea, China, Thailand, DPKR, and of course our own team from Hong Kong, China. The event also welcomed elite athletes from Balkan nations such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia, celebrating the cross cultural friendship born from our frequent collaboration with high level coaches from this region.
The championships were preceded by a four day FIS Development Camp run by SAHK’s very own team of coaches, where athletes and coaches from the Asian nations shared their skills and knowledge on and off the slopes in order to improve their competitive elite skills. The championships themselves were a great success with a safe and successful completion of the two days of competition. Alongside this, there was great engagement from an audience from a national and international audience on the livestream. As well as, China’s social media platforms, reaching over 500,000 engagements on Douyin.
This event marks a successful test of China’s first indoor ski center with professional slopes that meet the stringent standards of FIS. Officially opened on September 29th 2025, the venue is currently the world’s largest ski dome and, together with the Guangzhou Indoor Ski Resort, forms the largest indoor skiing cluster in South China. Covering approximately 100,000 square meters, the ski center features a vertical drop of 83 meters, and five professionally designed ski runs ranging from beginner to advanced levels. Two high‑speed four‑seat chairlifts and five magic carpets support efficient operations, providing a stable, international‑standard environment for training and competition.
Beyond athletic results, the event marked a new phase of Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation in advancing winter sports across the Greater Bay Area. After the opening ceremony, SAHK’s Chairman Mr. Edmond YUE and the Ski Association of Shenzhen exchanged plaques and unveiling of SAHK’s Shenzhen office, signalling a shift from ad‑hoc collaboration to a structured partnership focused on events, talent development, and shared standards. This cooperation is helping build a tightly connected winter‑sports network in southern China, reflected in expanding youth competitions, growing GBA ski club leagues, and stronger links among resorts in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Zhuhai.
Looking beyond South China, Shenzhen and Hong Kong are emerging as a new Asia‑Pacific engine for winter sports, supported by Hong Kong’s international networks and Shenzhen’s industrial and innovation strengths. With young athletes using competition as a bridge for exchange, the event underscored how southern China is contributing a distinct and expanding dimension to the global winter sports landscape. Overall, SAHK is very proud of this landmark achievement, and Chairman Mr. Edmond Yue would like to thank the organisers, the teams at HUAFASNOW and BONSKI, the athletes and their coaches, and all the Asian Ski Federation athletes who attended and supported the event.
