Hong Kong amateurs Humphrey Wong (left) and Yue Yin-Ho qualified for the 2016 UBS Hong Kong Open at The Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling.

Hong Kong national teammates Yue Yin-Ho and Humphrey Wong will tee up alongside the world’s best golfers at the UBS Hong Kong Open in December after claiming their spots in the two-day Qualifying Tournament at Fanling.

A field of 37 local professionals and amateurs were invited to compete for two coveted spots in the 57th UBS Hong Kong Open at The Hong Kong Golf Club on December 8-11 which will feature Major champions Justin Rose and Danny Willett.

After 36 holes over Fanling’s New Course it took a sudden-death play-off between three amateurs to decide the qualifiers, with another national team member Linus Lo Kwong-San just missing out after a bogey on the second extra hole.  The trio had all carded one-under totals of 139 to edge out HKPGA-member Derek Fung by a shot.

“I’m floating right now, this is a dream come true,” said an ecstatic Yue who at 16 is likely to be one of the youngest players in the field.  “I prepared so well for this event and was really pleased with the way I controlled my game over the two days.”

“I am so happy and will use my past experience to get ready for the Hong Kong Open,” commented 18-year-old Wong who also qualified in 2013.
